Introducing SoundFonts and Vienna SoundFont Studio 2.4
SoundFont technology is an audio sampling format that was developed jointly by E-MU and Creative Labs in the 1990s. Currently, there is an abundance of SoundFont-compatible devices such as Creative's AWE, Live!, Audigy and of course, the Sound Blaster X-Fi series of sound cards.
With SoundFont technology, you are able to create a wide variety of expressive sounds that require very little audio data. With the power of application filters, volume envelopes, pan instructions, effect sends, and LFO's (low frequency oscillators), the audio shaping and editing possibilities are virtually endless.
By coupling these tools together in a neat package, Vienna SoundFont Studio 2.4 becomes a user-friendly creation tool for developing SoundFont banks. It enables you to create, edit and playback various musical sounds and special sound effects accurately and quickly.
What's New in Version 2.4?
An updated interface and a new SoundFont format
The Vienna SoundFont Studio interface offers a wide range of editing tools, ranging from the simple establishment of key and velocity ranges, to the customization of an extensive range of parameters, all at your fingertips! In addition, this latest version of Vienna SoundFont Studio supports the new SoundFont 2.4 format. SoundFont 2.4 allows you to process 24-bit WAV samples, which easily translates to SoundFonts with greater depth, resolution and significantly better audio quality.
Easier control and visualization of envelopes
To provide a better visualization of the sample's envelope, a significant portion of the main interface has been dedicated for the Envelope display. This way, changes made in the various generators can be reflected instantly. For a more direct form of manipulation, you can also click and drag the points of the envelope conveniently to change its values.
Better organization with the SoundFont Hierarchy
The SoundFont Hierarchy replaces the SoundFont Tree View found in previous versions of Vienna SoundFont Studio. The pools have been replaced by the current organization of presets and instruments, which offers easier navigation and faster access to all the presets, instruments and samples related to the particular SoundFont bank.
