Satellite speaker
A small speaker with limited bass response often designed to be used with a matching subwoofer.

Sensitivity
A sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power (watts) into volume (decibels).

Signal
The desired portion of electrical information.

Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR)
It is the ratio of the largest signal that can be handled by a speaker to the noise present at the same time.

Soundstage
The ability of the sound systems to recreate an imaginary stage. A good speaker will faithfully make the stage seem close to the actual performance stage where it was recorded.

Speaker
Converts an electrical signal from an amplifier into sound waves.

Stereo
Stereo, or sometimes known as stereophonic sound, is the reproduction of sound using two independent audio channels.

Subwoofer
A loudspeaker designed to reproduce the bass frequencies.

Supertweeter
A small driver dedicated to producing ultra-high frequencies.

Surround Sound
Surround sound is the concept of expanding the spatial imaging of audio playback from one dimension (mono/left-right) to two or three dimensions.
