3.  How can I make the battery power last longer?

Here are some tips to conserve battery power:

  • Try to minimize skipping tracks.
  • As a general guideline, the more you use your player's interface and features (such as the X-Fi enhancements), the more power is consumed.
  • Avoid frequently turning your player on or off.
  • Minimize the use of passive speakers (speakers that don't have their own power source).
  • Set the player's LCD brightness to a lower level.

5.  How do I load music from my CDs to my player?
Use Creative Centrale to rip music from your CDs to your player. For detailed instructions, start Creative Centrale on your computer and refer to the Help file.

6.  Why are some files corrupted after loading to my player?
The file transfer process may have been interrupted. When loading files to your player, avoid disconnecting your player (or any form of interruption) until the file transfer is completed.

When some tracks become corrupted, your player may recover some files by doing a memory clean up. First, turn off your player. Turn it on again, and when the Creative logo appears, immediately press and hold the Menu button. The player enters Recovery Mode screen.

Tap Clean Up, and tap Yes to confirm. The clean-up process only takes a short while. Select Reboot afterwards.

If some files are still corrupted after you clean up, delete the files and reload again from your computer.

Note: Cleaning up your player will not delete the contents. The settings (such as the Theme, Sleep timer, and others)will be reverted to the original configuration.

7.  Can my player play files that are stored in subfolders?
Yes, your player can play files that are stored in multilevel folders.

To ensure that your player functions smoothly, it is best that you keep the folder structure simple, and minimize the subfolder levels (not more than 10 levels).
Also, make sure that your media files are located in the appropriate main folders (Music, Video, and Pictures).

Note: If you use Creative Centrale to load media files to your player, the files are automatically placed in corresponding folders.

8.  What should I do if my player does not display its contents accurately?

If your player displays inaccurate information, such as a missing song title/album or a different album cover, the library may have been corrupted. Clean up your player's memory to regenerate the library.

Refer to Question No. 6 for the clean-up procedure.

9.  What photo formats are supported by my player?
Your player supports the more common formats such as JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg, .jfif) and most BMP (.bmp). Supported BMP files include 1, 4, 8 and 24 bit color depth.

For other photo formats, use Creative Centrale to load these files to your player. Creative Centrale converts photos to a file suitable for viewing on the player.

11.  What is DRM and what type of DRM music can I play on my player?
DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. It is a form of copy protection for music and subscription content purchased from online music stores. Your player is a mass storage class (MSC) device that supports purchased music in the Windows Media® DRM (WMDRM) 9 format.

To load WMDRM 9 music to your player, use Creative Centrale or Windows Media Player (WMP) 9 (or later). Before loading WMDRM 9 content, play the content once first on WMP 9 (or later). This activates the purchase license, which enables you to subsequently load the content to a different location, subject to the conditions of your purchase agreement.

12.  Why do error messages appear when I load copy-protected music to my player?
Your player supports Windows Media® DRM (WMDRM) 9 content. Music files that use other forms of copy protection cannot be transferred or played on your player. Some content from online music stores may not be loaded to portable devices, or there may be a limit on the number of transfers. For details, contact your online music store.

13.  Why does my player skip certain music tracks?

The track may be corrupted, or is not in a format supported by your player. Check the following:

  • The track is in a format supported by your player. See item Question No. 10 above.
  • If the music track is copy protected, make sure that you load it to your player using Creative Centrale, and not Windows Explorer.

14.  What types of video formats does my player support?
Your player plays videos that are in AVI (.avi), WMV (.wmv) container formats.

For other formats, use Creative Centrale to load videos to your player. Creative Centrale automatically converts the videos to a format that is suitable for your player.

Note: Some files may still require you to install certain codec(s) before you can play or convert these files.
15.  Why can't my player play certain AVI or WMV videos?
Some of the video properties may be higher than your player's video specifications. Re-load the videos with the use of Creative Centrale.

Note: If you want to use Windows Explorer to load AVI or WMA videos, make sure the video properties are not higher than the following values:
AVI WMV
Resolution 640x480 640x480
Video bit rate 1.5 Mbps 800 Kbps
Audio bit rate 192 Kbps 128 Kbps
Audio sampling (400x240 or lower) 48 kHz 48 kHz

16.  What is the maximum file size that my ZEN X-Fi2 plays?

To load media greater than 2 GB (such as lengthy videos), you can first break this into different parts with the use of a video-editing software of your choice.

17.  How do I play or view files from a memory card?
You can play or view files from a memory card in a similar manner as when you play from the player's internal memory. From the main menu, select microSD, and then select Music, Videos, or Pictures. A library for each of these categories will be available for each memory card.

If you later decide to import from a memory card, this will load all music or all photos to your player. The newly imported files will be incorporated to the player's library once you restart the player, and you no longer need to have the memory card inserted in the player.

18.  What is firmware? How do I update my player's firmware?

To update, download and install the latest firmware from http://www.creative.com/getstarted/zenxfi2/welcome.asp.

19.  Can I use my player as a portable storage device?
Yes. Your player is a Mass Storage Class (MSC) device and is recognized as a removable disk by your computer. You can use Windows Explorer to move or copy files to and from your player.

If a memory card is inserted in the player, the computer recognizes the memory card as another removable disk apart from your player.

21.  After resetting, the message ^^Scanning Disk ...^^ appears when I turn the player on. What does this mean?

22.  What is X-Fi?
X-Fi is a Creative proprietary technology that enhances the sound of your music files.

When music is converted into digital files (such as MP3), it loses its original quality for the sake of portability. X-Fi intelligently restores the lost details - making your music files sound clearer, richer, and closer to the original recording.

On your player, the X-Fi enhancements come in 2 distinct components:

X-Fi Crystalizer - Enhances the audio quality, making music sound better.
X-Fi Expand - Gives music a 'live-performance' effect. This works best with your earphones or headphones.

For more information on X-Fi technology, visit www.x-fi.com.
23.  Does X-Fi work for all types of music and music files?
The X-Fi enhancements affect your individual music in different ways. This means that you may not get the same results across different files and genres. You can adjust the X-Fi Crystalizer and X-Fi Expand levels to suit the file that is currently playing.
